As a regular reader here on Edge i'm a little intrigued by your blog post about the DSi. I agree the updates are far from revolucionary and Nintendo is obviously playing safe with this one.
But i can't understand some of your opinions because you seem to have missed the point in some statements:
- DSi (Why the 'i'): Of course Apple's 'i' line has influenced the eletronic industry and not only Nintendo. But in the case of the DSi, i think it's pretty simple: Wii is about people playing together (us - we). DSi is about you playing (you - i - me). The 'i' is not there just for show, it has a meaning.
- Cameras: The cameras are there for be used in games, not to work like the digital cameras on iPhone, Sonys, Canons, etc. It's just a feature for gaming (and maybe video chat), but it shouldn't be compared head-to-head with other products, i think.
- MP3: This is what caught most of my attention and the reason i'm writing for you. The DSi supports AAC music format and not MP3. I know, it's not a standard format and may not be the smartest move from Nintendo. But you saying 'MP3' seems to indicate you did not read a lot about the DSi before bashing it.
- Games download: Not just 'cheap as 200 Wii Points'. There'll be free games too. And the Points are DSi Points that, in 2009, will turn into Nintendo Points.
Sorry for any mistakes in this message. (I'm from Brazil). But the point is that i'm not trying to be a smart ass writing to you. I just love EDGE and all of its content and thought it would be better to have the right information in its articles and features.
Anyway, luck on your rainy japanese life :) and best regards from Sao Paulo (also a very rainy place, by the way).
