Microsoft has announced that it has entered a partnership with Rock the Vote, and will allow the organization to encourage youth political action through Xbox Live.

Starting August 25th, the first day of the Democratic National Convention, 360 owners will be able to register to vote and participate in presidential polls through Xbox Live. Rock the Vote service announcements will be made available through the service.

Microsoft has also stated that it will be present at both Democratic and Republican National Conventions, where it will help promote Rock the Vote and educate delegates on family-safe gaming environments and parental controls.

General manager of Xbox Live Marc Whitten said of the partnership, “The Xbox Live community is active, vocal and passionate. We’re thrilled to partner with Rock the Vote to make it easier than ever for youth voters — and our members — to register and be heard.”

Rock the Vote executive director Heather Smith added, ““Xbox is a natural partner to help us reach out to youth voters. To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and there’s no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.”

In the announcement Microsoft also mentioned that if Xbox Live was an American state, it would be the seventh largest in the nation and have 20 electoral votes.

I love how they're getting in the ear of the politicians, educating delegates about parental controls. More like "PLEASE DON'T MAKE IT HARDER TO SELL 'M' RATED VIDEO GAMES!"
