Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance for "up to 24 hours" beginning Monday, September 29 from 12:01 PST, according to Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.
On his blog, he added that the maintenance is "in preparation for the new Xbox experience which will be available later this fall."
The company announced at E3 in July the "New Xbox Experience," a free update for the Xbox 360 that will add a new overall look, customizable Avatars and additional community features.
Hryb made clear that immediately following the downtime, users shouldn't expect the "New Xbox Experience" update to be live.
"When the service returns, you will not have any new features and you will not have the new Xbox experience update," he said.
sorry Kim_Naroz, the netflix movies will not come in high-def through the 360. Just standard def. Something about the streaming capacity. Maybe someday though, because apparently this can be upgraded. I wish I could give you a link but I forget where I read it.
The day the new Xbox Live service is updated, I am subscrbing to NetFlix so I can watch all my favorite high-definition movies on my Xbox 360!
That right there makes building another "collection" of discs (like DVD, or Blu-ray) a stupid idea. It is much better to have the entire collection available at the push of a button like with MP3 players.
AWESOME!
The Kim Translator says:
Must push Microsoft Digital Distribution agenda, must try to kill off DVD and Blu-Ray ....
In the real world I'm pretty Meh about the netflix service and prefer a decent uncompressed HD copy of a movie that I own and can lend to my friends. Stupid is not owning a physical copy.
MATHEMATICAL!
not september 9th.
Ack! stupid "2" key! :)
its september 29th!!!!!!
