Following five successive weeks where the UK’s top-sellers were leapfrogged by new entries, Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War holds its position for a second week in a row on the UK All Format charts.

Total hardware sales of World at War fall by 51 percent from last week, yet it still managed to hold off competition from the newest edition of the long-established chart-topper franchise Need for Speed.

The last time a game held the number one spot for two weeks in a row was back in mid-October with FIFA 09, and it was that EA game which continued to sell impressively, this week climbing back to number two after a sales lift of 28 percent. For seven weeks FIFA 09 has hovered at the very top-end of the charts as new games and direct competition fall into the double-digit-positions. While EA certainly must be delighted with the performance of its annual soccer sim, the same mightn’t be said for Need for Speed: Undercover.

Undercover rolls into fourth, which marks it as the lowest first-week all-formats chart position for a next-gen NFS title. Mario Kart Wii, which has remained in the charts for months, saw sales rise by 33 percent as it zipped past Undercover, ending in third.

Nintendo has seen a wide software surge in-line with its recent advertising splurge, as Wii Fit sales climb 45 percent from twelfth to fifth, with Brain Training rising from thirteenth to sixth (up 46 percent) and Wii Play up from eleventh to tenth (sales up 22 percent).

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King sinks from second to number 34, with sales plummeting down 91 percent. Though don’t let that soon-to-be headline fool you, as this is mainly due to it being offered by Blizzard as a digital download.

Football Manager 2009 falls from third to seventh (down 55 percent), while a heavy advertisement campaign can only put the newest Tomb Raider game into ninth. EA’s Left 4 Dead enters the charts at fifteenth.

All Format top-ten provided by Chart Track follows:

1. Call of Duty: World at War
2. FIFA ‘09
3. Mario Kart Wii
4. Need for Speed: Undercover
5. Wii Fit
6. Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training
7. Football Manager 2009
8. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
9. Tomb Raider: Underworld
10. Wii Play

So many good games knocked from the top ten by so many poor games... it makes a gamer cry. :(
