SCi Entertainment has now officially changed its name to Eidos. The publisher had filed a request to change its name with the Registrar of Companies yesterday, and now the firm has assumed the name and logo of its Eidos subsidiary.

Since Monday the company has been the subject of takeover speculation, with both Ubisoft and EA suspected to be interested in acquiring the UK publisher.

2008 has been a tumultuous year for the company. Back in September it posted a £99m loss in its financial results, and the firm has been linked with takeover offers since January. In February the company decided to shed 25% of its workforce and axe 14 projects.

SCi were unavailable for comment.

More as it comes through.

Eidos have IP with obsene potential like Deus Ex and Thief.

But it will require great skill and expense to continue this great heritage in the HD generation

Fingers crossed for Deus Ex 3

Who would want to buy them and why? Buying the Tomb Raider IP, sure, that's a no brainer for the likes of EA. But that Tomb Raider IP comes bundled with a lot of stuff that is more obligation than opportunity. Hitman? Maybe on a good day. Anything else? Certainly not. So buying Eidos would boil down to a massive hiring of staff for other projects, I am not sure anybody really wants to do that right now.
