Sony has released a new firmware upgrade for the PS3.

The highlight of the 2.53 update is that it will introduce full-screen support for Adobe Flash Player content in the system’s web browser, allowing far more functionality for the many websites built entirely in flash. It also allows more convenience in displaying streamed footage in full-screen, if you have a stomach for the quality.

Update 2.53 continues Sony's philosophy of making small, quick, and continual tweaks to its system, as opposed to Microsoft's model of storing a features and releasing them all in one burst.

The update is expected to be delivered to consoles today. Alternatively, the update can be downloaded, carried and uploaded (when available) by starting here.

OK so where is this update 2.53 exactly? Is It this only open to people in North America or Japan ? because my PS3 hasn't updated nor is the update availible form the website..

Edge I think you've got you wires crossed.. doesn't seem that there has been an update this week...

Or has it been pulled ? Anyone got any ideas ?

i don't have a ps3 so don't find this exciting; it does however highlight microsoft's need to include a browser. many wouldn't use it but it is one area of microsoft's console that lacks convenience or the ability to pander to its users needs.

For me it is about convinience.
I have a computer next to my PS3, but it is a hasyle to connect and chnge the display properties when I want to use my TV as a screen.

The PS3 has a good browser, it could be way, way better, but it keeps getting more fixes. This is one more stepp in the right direction.

Now I can watch The NHL Network in full screen, as well as OnTheSpot ^_^
I hope I can watch NHL anyway, it has not worked well as og yet, but hopefully we will be able to login with the PS3 soon.

C'mon Edge we expect better from you than to blindly copy bullshit from a Sony press release. Your magazine, as well as every other source of gaming news, has reported that Microsoft have stopped with the Fall and Spring updates with NXE.

Do I really believe Microsoft won't give system updates to fix issues, or improve core system functionality? No. Do I like the idea of essentially of the consumer running a dynamic application that you can change on the back-end anytime? Yes. With the NXE update they can certainly simply change the store or push new content to your menu system as Sony has done with the Playstation.Store. Make it more dynamic so less firmware updates are required for applications. Microsoft just went one step further and made the entire dashboard one application essentially.

As for the PS3 update, I welcome any and all updates that fix issues, and provide more functionality. When some people complain about it, they think their opinion is the one and only. Just because the update doesn't apply to them specifically, it applies to someone else.

Continue the tradition Sony, if it's ready let it fly.

Never used my PS3 for surfing the web... Got my mac book for that. I guess some folks might use their PS3 as their main browser. So maybe they'll be more excited about this news than me ;-)
