Microsoft has announced that November was the biggest sales month ever for the Xbox 360 in Europe, with the hardware sales “up 124 percent over last November”.

The company also cites GfK-ChartTrack data as suggesting that the 360 outsold the PS3 “across the entire region and in particular has seen significant gains in markets like France, Spain and Italy, where it has been outselling PlayStation 3 week after week.”

Microsoft claims that the Xbox 360 has sold more than seven million consoles in Europe since its launch in November 2005. The company also compared its year-over-year sales growth of 124 percent with the Wii (43 percent) and PS3 (3 percent).

“November was a very significant milestone for Xbox – we sold the most consoles ever in our history in Europe, and are outselling PlayStation 3 week-on-week across Europe.  Since the reduction in the Xbox 360 ERP in September, bringing the entry-level price point for Xbox 360 down to £129.99, consumers have responded enthusiastically to the Xbox 360 offering,” says Chris Lewis, VP of the Interactive Entertainment Business for Microsoft EMEA (who we recently interviewed here).

“We are working closely with retail to ensure a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season, and third-party games have been selling well on the Xbox 360 platform and providing great choice for consumers. Xbox 360 delivers that value - we’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market and this positive momentum indicates Xbox 360 is offering the right blend of gaming and entertainment experiences at the right price.”

As always, the story will be if this is only a jump from recent price cuts, that will soon fade back to more "routine" sales figures, or if this is some serious momentum that will kick it for the long haul.

And yet, no mention of Wii's numbers. Well, gotta' make it look good somehow.

Would you compare your numbers with the Wii if you were MS or Sony?

Any numbers compared to that beast would pale. Do you blame them? Its clear the war is over (most likely) and now its a fight for 2nd between the 360 and PS3 like it was last gen with the GCN and Xbox.

Oh man, you're going to get it for that comment.

Naa, the PS3 is fine. It won't sell 140 million consoles like the PS2 did, but I'm sure Sony will profit from it down the line, at least in its publishing deals and 1st and 2nd software revenue (and BluRay licensing fees).

I'm all about my 360 and don't own and won't own a PS3, but even I'm not that delusional (I'm not saying you are, just saying I'm not).

is this the begining of the end for the ps3??
