Nintendo’s new Play it on Wii initiative – which will port a selection of Gamecube titles to the Wii despite the fact that the Wii can play Gamecube media – has been shown to offer more than anticipated.

Famitsu reports that one of the first Play it on Wii titles, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, will be receiving more than remapped controls. Nintendo is said to be giving the game an overhaul through entirely new stages as well as tweaks to the original levels.

Though the controls will be remapped to a more conservative approach – surely a first for the console – where the game will eschew bongo controllers for the more straightforward analogue stick and A-button traditions. The game is said to not entirely abort motion controls, however, as the Wii remote’s accelerometers will be used to help Donkey Kong perform attacks and jumps.

Also, the Play it re-release of Pikmin will use the Wii remote in the way you would expect; activating the game’s Pikmin is done with a point ‘n click.

Tthe new Donkey Kong Jungle Beat hits Japan December 11, with Pikmin launching on Christmas Day.
