Launched in 2006, the Nintendo Wii is still relatively difficult to find at retail, although the hunt has become easier.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told the L.A. Times, "Nintendo has continually raised the production levels of the Wii hardware. We're now producing 2.4 million units a month worldwide.

"Last year, we made 1.6 million a month. So we've made a 33 percent increase."

Without naming Nintendo's competitor specifically, Fils-Aime noted Sony's 10 million unit target for PS3 this fiscal year. "For us, that's three months of production. We're producing an unprecedented level of hardware to try to meet demand."

He added that hardware is hitting retail shelves on a "regular basis," with Wii holiday supply up 50 percent.

However, he said, "...we don't know if the demand will be even higher than that."

In a few weeks huh, you must not reside in the US? I'm having fun with Fable 2 so far. But Dead Rising, GH:WT, Fallout 3, Gears 2, CoD:WaW, and Fable are a lot of games to try to play all at once so right now and over the next few weeks I'll be overwhelmed with games. I don't plan on buying any new games until RE5 next march; I should be able to finish all 6 of those games by then (I still have Rock Band 2 to finish). I wanted to check out Prince of Persia and Far Cry 2 as well...too many good games.

I was raised on WRPGs (Kotor). Still haven't braved the JRPG waters yet, too intimidating.

No, I live in the States. I own an Xbox360 by proxy, so I'll have to wait my turn to play through Fable 2.

Wouldn't 10 million units be 4 months of production for Nintendo (at 2.4 million a month) rather than 3 months? 3 months would only be 7.2 million units; 4 months would be closer to 10 million at 9.6 million. I can understand his desire to talk crap but he can at least not make himself look stupid by not knowing simple math. Reggie is all about kicking ass and taking names, but he's not about doing math or multiplication.

Like all maangers, he's paid to look good and be an engaging speaker, not perform complex multiplications. I mean we're talking 2.4 X 4 here. you got a PH D. in math, Einstein? No so easy, is it, huh? Or is it 10 / 4? or is that 3 X 2.4? NOW LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE.

The Wii success if just unbelievable.
How is it possible that after 2 years they keep selling millions/month? Nintendo really hit the jackpot.
I'm really amazed with the small size of the Wii. How small can computers get?

NickgamertagO1's picture

Well, when the hardware you're using is about 7 years old, you can make it pretty small (the Wii is a dressed up GameCube with an inaccurate wand controller).

Yes, it is quite amazing how well the Wii is doing. Good for Nintendo. Just wish the Wii was something I could enjoy as well as all as the mass market does. I'm going to sell mine at Christmas time for a nice little profit.

Nick, stop trolling!

We know the Wii is something you don't enjoy and you hate seeing the success it's having... just get over it already!

ken, nice to have you back.

I'm not trolling, just stating the facts. Its so small because the components are old technology, the older they are, the smaller they get. And I said its amazing how Nintendo is doing so well, then I said good for them. I wasn't being sarcastic. I don't hate its success. I just wish I enjoyed it more, that's all. Its success means I get to sell it and make a profit, so I'm happy. So, you picking up Fallout and Fable Ken?

Kenology's picture

No to Fallout as I'm not a big WRPG fan. I should be able to play Fable 2 in a few weeks. I loved the first one.
