Very successful AAA games studio based in Newcastle, a leading developer, publisher, and marketer of interactive entertainment software, are looking for a Technical Animator to join their team.
£25 - 30,000 on Experience + Benefits and Package.The studios videogames are available for play on all major videogame platforms including the Playstation3 computer entertainment system, Xbox360 video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS. The studio is legendary in the industry with early breakthrough titles including Defender and Spy Hunter. More recent blockbuster titles include NBA Ballers, Blitz: The League and the Mortal Kombat series.
Reports to the Character Lead and Art Director
• Role overview: The role involves creating rigging, character control rigs, setup & weighting for character models on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Role also involves collaborating with Animation, and character teams to create character setups and control rigs. Communicating technical requirements to the rest of the art team and programming team.
• Functional responsibilities: The primary function of this role is to create the tech pipeline and movement systems of the game characters. This role requires strong problem solving and communication skills as well as a wealth of knowledge in character rigging in 3Ds Max, Maya and Motion Builder.
The character TD must act as a communication link between character artists, animators, the Art lead and Director and the programming team.
Skills required:
• Ability to rig, weight & setup controls & interfaces for character animation.
• Solid knowledge of 3D Studio Max & Max Script.
• Ability to conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a tight schedule.
• Strong artistic, written, and, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work closely with other disciplines (animators, models & programmers).
Skills desired:
• Previous games experience – Ideally shipped at least one title.
• Additional 3D application experience (Maya, MotionBuilder etc).
• Previous animation experience.
• Knowledge of Unreal 3 Technology & pipeline.
Education and experience:
• HND/Degree qualification in related subject or equivalent work experience.
• A portfolio that demonstrate an industry standard level of art.
• For this role we are looking for at least 3 years experience in games, TV or Film industry, and or 2 published titles.
Person specification: In addition to having a good foundation of artistic ability, the role requires specialist knowledge of anatomy, of building models and rigging. This role involves working as part of a team and leading small task teams, so enthusiasm and good communication skills are desirable.
